Whistler’s Best Spots for Après Music
Story by Bronwyn Preece | Images by Joern Rohde
Après is French for “after”… the precious moments after being on the slopes all day, and before the evening’s plans take over. The ritual of après — a sanctified tradition across mountain resorts — is the chance to raise a glass and kick up sometimes bootless feet to lively tunes and celebrate an awesome day. In Whistler, there are many offerings: from a mix of DJs and drinks to sipping a local brew while listening to a live band.
From the Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub, The Longhorn Saloon, and the Garibaldi Lift Co. Bar & Grill (GLC) in the heart of the Village to Merlin’s Bar & Grill at Blackcomb’s Upper Village base and, of course, to the iconic Dusty’s Bar & BBQ in Creekside — each has après down to a fine art.
The Dubh Linn Gate features some of Whistler’s finest and favourite local live musicians. “Everyone is welcome to hit the dance floor, or simply sit back and enjoy a nice pint of Guinness after a great day on the hill,” said a Dubh Linn Gate spokesperson. Après here is every day of the week.

Longhorn

GLC
The Longhorn Saloon is a lively choice — DJs play to a soundtrack of champagne bottles firing, corks popping, and shot-skis slamming. From T.G.I.F. (Thank Gondola It’s Friday!) to the First Chair Fizz, things start cranking up here at around 2:30 p.m., extending the standard après timeframe of 3 to 5 p.m. The Longhorn is a sure shot for the party vibe!

Dusty’s and Merlin’s host an alternating weekly schedule of bands. Local legends The Hairfarmers, masters of music wizardry, play Tuesday and Saturday at Dusty’s and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Merlin’s. Taylor James takes the stage at Dusty’s on Friday and at Merlin’s on Saturday.
The GLC hosts SKIITOUR on the third Wednesday of each month, offering the chance to don your flamboyant retro ski gear and groove to their mix of beats. Weekends feature DJ Stash on Saturdays and Taylor James on Sundays.
And to top it off, Corona DJ Sessions are hosted on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Corona Mountaintop Lodge patio, with rotating DJs, at the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain, which may then lead you down the mountain to the Longhorn, where their Sunday night Sunset Sessions start at 6 p.m. whistlerblackcomb.com
